One thing about planning a Breckenridge elopement is that you never really know what Colorado weather is going to do! Dan and Violet had originally planned a sunset ceremony at Loveland Pass, but when the forecast started showing severe thunderstorms, we knew we needed to make some changes. Thankfully, everything worked out, and their day ended up being such a good reminder of why flexibility is so important when eloping in the mountains. Between getting ready with their family and friends in downtown Breckenridge and exchanging vows surrounded by incredible mountain views, their day was so much fun to be part of!

Getting Ready in Downtown Breckenridge

Dan and Violet rented the cutest Airbnb right in the heart of downtown Breckenridge, where they spent the morning getting ready with their closest friends and family. I love when couples choose to stay somewhere close to their elopement location because it gives everyone a comfortable place to get ready and spend time together before the ceremony. Violet’s lace wedding dress, white boots, and colorful bouquet were such fun details, and I loved getting to capture those little moments as everyone got ready.

Once they were both dressed, Dan and Violet shared their first look outside the Airbnb. The house had an adorable front porch and garden area that made the perfect spot for a few photos before heading into the mountains. It was such a sweet way to start their day, and I love that they got to have a little time together before meeting up with everyone for their ceremony.

Their Intimate Loveland Pass Ceremony

After getting ready, we headed to Loveland Pass for their ceremony! If you’re considering a Breckenridge elopement, Loveland Pass is definitely a location worth looking into. It’s known for its incredible mountain views, and you don’t have to hike miles to enjoy the scenery. Dan and Violet exchanged vows surrounded by their closest family and friends, with the mountains and alpine lake in the background. I love that they were able to have such an intimate ceremony while still including the people who mattered most to them.

After the ceremony, we took some family photos before heading off for couples portraits around the area. Between the rocky overlooks, mountain views, and Violet’s veil blowing in the breeze, there were so many great spots to explore. I especially loved how much fun Dan and Violet had together throughout their portraits. From laughing and running around to sitting on the rocks and taking in the views, we got such a good mix of candid moments and portraits that felt natural to them!

Why Flexibility Matters When Planning a Breckenridge Elopement

Here’s something I always tell couples planning to elope in Colorado: be prepared for the weather to change your plans! Leading up to Dan and Violet’s wedding, the forecast was calling for severe thunderstorms throughout the day. Since their ceremony was going to be at Loveland Pass, we didn’t want to take any chances with lightning at that elevation. So instead of sticking with their original sunset ceremony, we decided to move everything up to noon. And while midday light in the mountains isn’t usually my first choice as a photographer, safety always comes first!

Luckily, we ended up with the most perfect overcast skies, which gave us beautiful, even lighting for their ceremony and portraits. It honestly worked out so well! And that’s probably my biggest piece of advice for anyone planning a Colorado mountain elopement. Have a plan, but be willing to adjust it when needed. Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, and having a photographer who knows the area and can adapt makes such a difference. Dan and Violet’s day is the perfect example that even when things don’t go exactly as planned, you can still have an incredible experience.
