If you’ve ever thought couples photos meant dressing perfectly, standing in the right pose, and smiling at the camera for an hour, Dannon and Grace are here to prove otherwise! Their couples photos in Crested Butte were basically the opposite of that, in the best way. We ran through wildflower fields, wandered along dirt roads, climbed around by the creek, and let them be as goofy and affectionate as they wanted. They came into this session ready for anything, and that freedom is exactly what made these photos feel so much like them.
Couples Photos in Crested Butte That Actually Feel Like You
Dannon and Grace were already married when we did this session. But their wedding photos had never really felt like an accurate representation of their relationship. The photos themselves were beautiful, but they wanted something that showed more of their personalities, the adventurous side, the silliness, their love of being outside, and how they naturally are together. So that became the entire point of this session. No pressure to look polished every second. No spending the whole evening worrying about whether you’re doing the “right” thing in front of the camera.
And these two were so down for it. From the beginning, they felt comfortable enough to run around, climb on fences, roll around in the wildflowers, and do whatever random thing I threw their way. There are still those quieter, close-up moments mixed in, but nothing feels overly posed. That’s what I want your couples photos to be: not just photos where you look good, but photos where you can actually recognize yourselves!
Planning Adventurous Couples Photos in Crested Butte
Crested Butte is one of my favorite places for sessions like this because there’s so much room to explore without needing to turn your photos into a huge production. If wildflowers are high on your wishlist, late June through early August is generally the window to aim for, with July being especially good. I also recommend planning around sunrise or sunset. The softer light makes the mountains and wildflowers look incredible and gives us way more freedom to move around without that harsh midday sun.
For outfits, my biggest advice is to coordinate instead of match. Think similar color families and styles that look good together without wearing basically the same thing. Dannon and Grace nailed this, the denim, earthy tones, boots, flannel, and cowboy hat all made sense with the Crested Butte landscape without feeling like they were wearing “photo outfits.” The goal is still to look like yourselves. Just yourselves on a really good day, running around somewhere beautiful together.
