Chloe and Keaton drove 27 hours to Crested Butte with their two pups because leaving them behind was never an option. And honestly? It made their wedding day even better. From hiking through wildflower-covered trails together to having their dogs witness their vows (and steal the show a few times). Every part of the day felt true to who they are. That’s what I love most about elopements. You get to build a day around the life you’ve already created together, and sometimes that includes four paws and a couple of leashes.
Why a Dog-Friendly Colorado Elopement Just Feels Different
One of my favorite parts of Chloe and Keaton’s day was how naturally their dogs were woven into everything. They weren’t just there for a few portraits before heading back to the hotel. They walked with them to their ceremony, stood nearby while they exchanged vows, explored the trails together, and even made an appearance during some of the sweetest moments afterward. It never felt like the dogs were “added on.” They were simply part of the family. The entire day was proof that your wedding doesn’t have to fit anyone else’s expectations. If your weekends are usually spent exploring with your dogs, why wouldn’t your wedding day look the same? Watching the pups run through the alpine meadows while Chloe and Keaton laughed their way down the trail made the whole experience feel relaxed, personal, and completely them!

Crested Butte is one of those places that makes bringing your dogs feel easy. Between the mountain views, endless trails, wide open meadows. And dog-friendly outdoor spaces, it’s an incredible place for couples who want their pets to be part of the adventure. During the summer, the hills come alive with wildflowers. Creating the dreamiest backdrop without needing to hike miles into the backcountry.
A little planning goes a long way when you’re including your dogs. Think about bringing extra water, treats, waste bags, leashes, and someone who can help keep an eye on them if you want a few portraits alone. Chloe and Keaton planned their timeline around their pups instead of expecting their dogs to adapt to a traditional wedding schedule, and it made the entire day feel so much less stressful. Their dogs even helped create some of the funniest, most candid moments that they’ll probably remember forever.
The Best Moments Were the Ones You Couldn’t Plan
There were so many little moments throughout this day that couldn’t have been scripted. Their dogs wandered into the ceremony at the perfect times. Happily explored every overlook, and somehow knew exactly when to settle down for portraits. After exchanging vows surrounded by incredible mountain views, Chloe and Keaton shared cake on a picnic blanket, signed their marriage license, and even let their pups help with one last special surprise before sunset.
By the end of the evening, it felt less like a wedding production and more like the best day spent with the people and pets they love most. They laughed their way through the trails, soaked in the quiet mountain views, and never once had to worry about following a timeline that didn’t fit them. Looking through these photos, you can almost feel how relaxed the entire day was.
